Description

All Classes and All Races from Southern New Mexico Speedway, October 10, 2011. Classes racing this night include: X-Mods, Super Trucks, Hornets, Street Stocks and Renegade Winged Sprints. All Heat Races and Main Events are included. There were Trophy Dashes in Street Stocks and Super Trucks only.

This 2011 SNMS Race was recorded in High Definition video. This benefits you in three ways:

  1. The Standard Definition version comes out better than with my previous camera
  2. You have the option of purchasing this event in High Definition on Bluray disc. (+$5)
  3. Most Bluray players will upscale SD discs to HD for viewing, which is almost as good as the Bluray version without the extra cost!

Your order will default to Standard Definition unless you select Hi Def (BluRay) from the Resolution option box above.

Race Recap

The following race recap provided by SNMS track announcer, Bryan Hulbert:

(October 1, 2011 – Las Cruces, NM) The 2011 Regular Season Finale at the Southern New Mexico Speedway saw a packed house as fans poured in from the SNM State Fair in search of an adrenaline rush as the Renegade Sprint Car Series headlined the night’s action along with the Rick’s Performance Center Street Stocks, Sisbarro Super Trucks, Hornets, and the MSD Ignition Limited X-Mods.

Heat race wins belonged to Christy Georges and Kenny Alons in the Super Trucks with the Hornet heats went to Brenda Jones and Gary Mays with the X-Mod heats going to Christy Georges, Steven Villegas, Tom Connor, and Donald Gorham. Street Stock heats were won by Justin Rodriguez, Leland Harrison, and Jacob Rodriguez while Sprint Car heats went to Cesar Fuentes, Lamar Skarda, and Mike Stringfield.

Trophy dash wins went to Leland Harrison and Kenny Alons.

Super Trucks

The Sisbarro Super Trucks hit the track for 20 laps with the 51s of Lee Heiligenthal jumping to the early race lead with Dennis McMaster holding the runner up spot over Dr. Dave Deetz. On the move from the ninth starting position, the 2a of Kenny Alons would make his way into fifth with fifteen laps to run. Working the high side of the track, the 2a would continue to pick his way through the field as the 51s of Heiligenthal continued to lead as the caution waved with 12 laps to run. Back to green and Alons was looking for the lead. Side by side, the 2a would jump to a side by side battle with the 51s but would fall short of the pass. Not giving up, Alons would pull off a bold pass with just inches to spare between Heiligenthal and the wall. Not to be outdone, the 51s would dive the truck low to get the slide job and reclaim the lead as the caution waved with 9 laps to run. On the restart, the 51s would hesitate for just a moment but that was all Kenny Alons and now Rick Jackson needed to take the battle for the lead three wide. On the high side the 2a would take the point as Jackson took over the runner up spot and began giving chase. To five laps to go and the battle was on as the 50 of Jackson stole the lead. Falling to second, the 2a appeared to suddenly have problems as the truck began losing speed. Falling through the running order, the 2a would finally get back underway as the caution waved with two laps to run. Back to green and the battle on the track was for third with the 82 of Sherman Barnett going after the 51s of Heiligenthal. To the final lap, Lloyd Duffy was in hot pursuit of the 50 but Rick Jackson would not be denied the win. Lloyd Duffy, Lee Heiligenthal, Sherman Barnett, and Brent Deetz rounded out the top five. Coming into the night, the championship battle was between the 6 of Walton Kyle Sr. and Sherman Barnett with Rick Jackson having a shot if all the conditions were right and in the end the conditions were perfect as Jackson was crowned the 2011 Sisbarro Super Truck Champion.

Hornets

The Hornets entered the Speedway for their 15 laps A-Main with the 28t of Rudy Tarin taking full advantage of his front row starting position. Jumping out to a big advantage from the start, the 28t would not have much trouble until the field began running down slower traffic. Held up by lapped traffic, the 54 of Ben Ives would see his opportunity knocking as the 54 began pulling right to the back bumper of the 28t. Less than 10 laps to run and Ives was not along as the 7s of Shelly Mays Thedford kept pace with the 54 as both drivers continued to track the 28t of Tarin. As the battle for the lead continued the 28t would overshoot the high line; handing the lead to the 54 of Ives. Charging from the back of the field, the 13x of Benny Pena and the 47 of Jeffery Maag would shadow each other into the top five with the championship on the line. Just trying to stay within a couple spots of the 13x, Maag was all about preserving his points lead as up-front the 18 of Gary Mays, from last, would rocket into the race lead with two laps to run. Pulling away in a hurry the 18 of Mays would score the win. Ben Ives, Benny Pena, Brenda Jones, and Jeffery Maag would round out the top five. With his fifth place finish the 47 for Jeffery Maag would earn the 2011 Hornet Championship.

X-Mods

On to the MSD Ignition Limited X-Mods for their 20 laps A-Main. With their track points championship decided on September 17th, the X-Mods were in it the money and USRA National points with several cars taking the option to run topless with a $200 bonus on the line for the highest finishing Topless X-Mod courtesy of Border International. To the green and the 44 of Christy Georges would look to lead as the pole sitter, the 71 of Don Gorham, battled to the inside line but the slick would send the 71 around to force the caution. Back to green with the 07 of Donovan Flores taking over the pole position it would still be the 44 of Georges jumping into the race lead. Battling through the field, the 14x of Tom Connor would take over third before the caution waved. Back to green and Tom Connor would take over second from Flores as the 25 of Michal Gonzales made his presence known; taking over third before the caution waved again; earning the X-Mods a 5 lap deduction. Under caution things would shake up at the front of the field as the Christy Georges headed to the pits with a flat tire. Georges would return but at the tail end of the field as the green flag waved with the Junk Yard Dog showing the way but the green would short lived as the caution wave again; earning another 5 laps deduction on the race. With so much time spent under caution, the race would resume with 5 laps to run but with a stern warning that the next caution would end the race. Battling into the final laps, the 75 of Steven Villegas would lose and engine; laying down a slick that would force the caution and end the race with the 14x of Tom Connor taking the win and the $200 bonus from Border International. Michael Gonzales, Donovan Flores, Patrick Carney, and Kenny Medina rounded out the top five.

Street Stocks

The Rick’s Performance Center Street Stocks took the green for their 20 lap A-Main with the 20s of Scott Sullivan jumping to the race lead as the battle for second with three wide with the 37j of Joe Rodriguez taking the position. Spinning off of turn four, the 20s of Scott Sullivan would park at the bottom of the track allowing everyone to work by and stay green. Battling through the field, the 48t of Paul Telles Jr. would take over third; looking to take away second from the 2d of Tudy Barela. Battling side by side, the fight would go three wide but it would not end well for the 48t as Telles bounced off the left side tires of Joe Rodriguez; ending his night early. Able to stay green the field raced on with Tudy Barela and Joe Rodriguez battling for the race lead. Into slower traffic, the 2d would use lapped cars as a pick to grab the race lead with the 37j still in hot pursuit. Swapping the lead in traffic, the 2d would finally get the advantage as the red flag waved. Battling off the high side, the 37j would end up going end on into the wall. Out of his car, Joe would wave to fans and family; assuring that he was ok. Back underway the car on the move was the 3 of Patrick Beach. Taking the high line to the ragged edge, the 3 would shoot into third with the 12 of Debbie Jo Baxter running second as the caution waved. Back underway Debbie Jo would take a shot at the lead but Tudy was too strong on the high line. After losing some ground on the restart, the 3 of Beach would begin making up lost ground as the caution waved again. With only 3 laps to run the green was back out and the 2d would not be denied as Tudy Barela took the win. Debbi Jo Baxter would take second with Mike Rosales taking third in the closing laps. Patrick Beach and Sean Bowman rounded out the top five. Rosales would take his fourth Rick Performance Center Street Stock Championship.

Winged Sprints

The final A-Main of the night would belong to the Renegade Sprint Car Series with the championship on the line. Starting ninth, tenth, and eleventh Dylan Harris, Lorne Wofford, and Royal Jones were the cars to watch. To the green, the 11 of Mike Stringfield would show the way with Curt Barnett in tow. Running away from the field, the 11 and the 43 were a straight-a-way ahead in no time at all as the battle for third was between the 25c of Lamar Skarda and the 27 of Cesar Fuentes. Back to the battle for the championship and Lorne Wofford leading the charge with Dylan Harris trying to shake Royal Jones who ran right on his back bumper just outside the top ten. As the 48 and the 131 battled the fight for fifth was between John Carney and Wes Wofford with Wofford taking the spot for a moment as Carney went for the slide job; causing the field to slam on the brakes on the high line and allowing Colt Treharn to pick up three spots in a single shot before the caution waved as Carney and Lorne Wofford came together. Back underway the green would be short lived as the caution waved for the spun 98 of Jerry Gonzales. Getting warned for jumping the start, the 48 and the 18 would restart perfectly as the 131 lined up behind the 86 of Patton with the 48 of Harris right next to him. Not wanting to get held up by either driver, Jones would let both drivers to the high line; going low and getting by both drivers on the restart. After having to go to the back of the running order, the 18 of Wofford was back in the battle as Harris, Jones, and Wofford ran nose to tail. As the three drivers battled the fight for the lead would see the 19 of Wes Wofford pull of a textbook slide job and simply pull away. With fewer than 10 laps to go and the 19 had a huge advantage but the caution was wave with 9 laps to run. Back to green and Harris would restart just in front of the 131; needing to get two more spots to win the championship. Restarting fifth and sixth, the fight was on as the 18 of Lorne Wofford, after looking like he was out of the fight was right back in the mix. Side by side, the 131 would take away fifth from Harris as up front the 19 of Wes Wofford was on a rail but was not along as the 27 of Cesar Fuentes ran down Harris but was not able to get the pass. Showing Wofford the faster line, the 19 would adjust down the track to hold the lead and secure the win. Cesar Fuentes, Colt Treharn, Royal Jones, and Dylan Harris rounded out the top five. Finishing out just in front of Harris, the 131 of Royal Jones would secure the 2011 Sprint Car Championship as Wes Wofford took the overall Renegade Sprint Car Series Championship.
